Increased distribution floor productivity is the main purpose of the WIN system. The WIN system provides for standards application and labor control. Goal times for assignments are presented whenever possible and real time performance feedback to the user is provided at the end of assignments if desired.win_box02

How goal times for assignments are generated

Order Detail data from existing host systems can be exported to the WIN system using several different data acquisition methods. These data records typically contain order number, item number, item description, quantity, cube, weight, slot location/zone and invoice date. After export from the host system the WIN Build Assignments Module then processes this data. Data is first grouped into assignments and labor standards are applied typically based on case weight and zone, additionally travel standards can be calculated using an X-Y-Z coordinate system and added to the assignment.

About the Import Process

The import process is custom per installation. ChainLogic can provide for different business practices such as grouping assignments based on site specific criteria including aisle, cube, weight, and length of assignment or accept default groupings. We can prioritize assignments based on transportation dispatch systems such as Trucks or adhoc method.

The result of the import process is work in the WIN system. We refer to such work as the “Backlog”. At this point we have applied labor/travel standards, provided for start assignment times (paperwork), provided for pallet acquisition/drop and given time for end assignment. We can now present to management the man-hours required to perform the work in the “Backlog”. The resultant output is a report that can be used for immediate labor forecasting.

Glossary of WIN Terms

The following terms will help you understand the concepts of Engineered Work Standards and the WIN software application.

Scheduled Minutes
The minutes calculated by WIN required to complete an assignment at a 100% performance level

Actual Minutes
The minutes spent by an associate to complete an assignment from start to finish

Assignment
Grouping of discreet tasks into a "logical work increment"

Direct Assignments
Any assignment that has had standards applied and scheduled minutes calculated for the purpose of measuring performance.

Indirect Assignments
Any assignment that by it's nature is highly variable or occurs randomly and is not measurable but is reportable

Unassigned
The assignment is in the backlog pool and is available to be assigned and worked

Assigned
The assignment is owned by an associate but has not been started

Working
The assignment has been started by an associate and time is being clocked against it

Paused
The assignment has been paused by an associate usually to go on break or lunch

Complete
The assignment has been completed by an associate and performance has been calculated

Performance
The measurement of an associate in terms of a percent where performance=scheduled minutes/actual minutes

Efficiency
The total scheduled
(standard)time/total actual (clock) time x 100%

Backlog
The unassigned work remaining in the WIN system

The process where an associate initiates an interactive session with the WIN system

Logoff
The process where an associate terminates an interactive session with the WIN system

Clock In
The process where an associate creates a clock record with a current-clock in time stamp

Clock Out
The process where an associate creates a clock record with a current-clock out time stamp

Associate User Screen
The workstation application where the associate interacts with the WIN system by reporting what they have presently accomplished

Get Assignment
The process where a user clicks on a button in the WIN system to be automatically assigned or manually select an assignment

Start Assignment
The process where an associate starts clocking time against an assignment

Complete Assignment
The process where an associate reports to the WIN system that the assignment is complete and the performance can then be calculated

Active
The current days production data

History
Assignment data from the current year exclusive of the current day that is available for reporting purposes

Archive
Assignment data from prior years that is available for comparison reporting purposes
